Suppose I could tell you one simple thing to change in your lifestyle that would not only help your dry skin, there would be a very good chance that you would lose 20 pounds by the end of a year? Interested?

Drink ice water. Those recommended 8 glasses (16 oz per glass) of water per day that you have heard about all your life will actually burn an extra 200 calories per day if you pour them over ice. Here is how it works, when you eat or drink something cold, your body raises your metabolism to keep your body temperature from falling and in so doing, burns calories. You can burn 73,000 calories (or 20 pounds) a year, just from drinking ice water.

Drinking water helps to remove toxins and wastes. It cushions and lubricates joints, decreases the risk of kidney stones, rehydrates and protects tissues, organs and bones from shock and damage. It helps in digesting food, and in transporting oxygen and nutrients to cells.

Drinking beverages that are water based, even over ice, will not produce the same result. Those drinks containing sugar cause the pancreas to boost insulin levels and prevent the body from burning fat. Caffeine stimulates the adrenal gland, causes dehydration and robs the body of essential vitamins and minerals. When you consume these beverages instead of water, the kidneys cannot function properly. When this happens, some of their workload is pushed off onto the liver. Because the liver is doing part of the kidneys job, it is unable to operate at top speed to metabolize fat. This means that less body fat is metabolized and more is stored.

Keep a 16-oz glass of ice water nearby and sip it throughout the day. Try to have all 8 glasses finished off an hour before you go to bed so you don’t spend the night in the bathroom. In a year, you will find you have lost weight, have better skin tone and will have more energy!
