On the above-mentioned trip, Glenn had all of his upper teeth extracted by a Mexican oral surgeon, and immediate dentures put in. The pain (despite medications given him by the surgeon) got to be too much to bear, so we stopped and removed the dental plates put in less than an hour before. Glenn's upper gums were heavily stitched in several places and totally swollen, so I recommended he keep them out as the bleeding had abated, and Glenn used Q-tips to coat his gums with emu oil for the next three days. The pain was gone by day two, and on day four he returned to the oral surgeon for a checkup by the surgeon, who told him he had never seen stitches heal so fast, and the surgeon proceeded to remove all the stitches (usually one has to wait at least two weeks!). I found that when my dentures irritate my gums, putting Emu oil on the irritated spot stops all pain.

I had to share my experience with a gum graft I recently had performed. Since I was aware of emu oil healing properties I started to apply it immediately after the surgery. I dabbed it on the section where the graft had been taken and drizzled it between the bandage and the gum where the graft was sewn. After 2 weeks I returned to have the bandage removed and amazed the periodontist with the results Apparently the emu oil had managed to speed the healing to the point where he was convinced that my gums showed a five week heal and not just the two weeks it had been.

Since I had also noticed that my teeth were much cleaner and tartar free I continued to use the oil on my teeth daily when brushing them. Not only are all the stains gone from my teeth but my annual cleaning is a breeze. Apparently the oil cleans the tartar and plaque off so I only need a quick polish and I'm done. Awesome!
